MASSAGE THERAPY

The YourBodyWorks team of New York State Licensed Massage Therapists (LMT’s) strive to provide you with the most effective massage therapy sessions possible.  What is considered “effective” depends on you - your body, your life, your goals for the specific session, and your tolerance and comfort in how the therapist touches you.

YOUR FIRST MASSAGE

  • On your first visit, you will fill out a health/medical history form, and if you are coming for treatment of a specific condition, your LMT will perform a short postural, flexibility and movement assessment to help determine the best plan of massage therapy care for you.
  • If you are also being treated by a Physical Therapist or other Healthcare provider, your massage therapist will coordinate the massage treatments with them to support your return to full function.
  • Your LMT will also ask you what your prior experience with massage has been.  What did you like, what did you not like, what worked and what did not, what depth of pressure do you find appropriate, what is your comfort level being on the table, and what do you think will best meet your goals for this session.
  • There are many different massage techniques, some are performed directly on the skin, some through clothing.  Some use oil or cream and some do not.
  • Your LMT can also use heat and cold applications, stretches and hot stones when appropriate.
